We have a long fight for political parity as demonstrated by the below statistics*; some very startling facts about women serving in government:

  • Governors -- 6 out of 50
  • Attorneys Generals -- 7 out of 50
  • Secretaries of State -- 12 out of 50
  • State Treasurers -- 8 out of 50
  • U.S. Senate -- 17% are women
  • U.S. House of Representatives -- 17% are women
  • U.S. Supreme Court -- 33% are women
  • Missouri Senate -- 18% are women
  • Missouri House of Representatives -- 25% are women
  • Kansas Senate -- 30% are women
  • Kansas House of Representatives -- 26% are women

In 2012 1,750 or 23.7% of the 7.382 state legislators are women.  Women hold 427 or 21.7% of the 1,971 state senate seats and 1,323 or 24.5% state house seats.

The United States ranked 69th in the world in terms of
legislative representation… behind Turkmenistan (#68)
and Afghanistan (#30) and Mozambique (#10).
